OIL PAINTING
This class offers a practical approach to techniques used in oil painting. Students are taught to explore and examine their own painting methods through the still life and other references including photography. Color theory,use of mediums, composition and content will be the subject of individual critiques and group discussions.
AFTERNOON LANDSCAPE
The challenges of painting on location will be addressed in this course. Students gain an understanding of landscape by observation and simplification. Instruction is provided regarding the fundamentals of oil painting including color, value, composition and the ever changing light.
EVENING LANDSCAPE
Through the rapidly changing light of evening, important painting concepts are employed to translate and interpret thelandscape. Exploration of color palettes, composition and perspective will be utilized to improve the student's knowledge of the oil painting medium
SCULPTURE
Three dimensional construction and design will be the focus of this course. Students are encouraged to develop their own ideas through resources of the instructor and various forms of reference. Assignments can be provided, and may include portrait, figure, bas-relief, animals or abstraction. All lessons give a comprehensive understanding of armature building, clay application and the use of tools. All levels are welcome.
OPEN STUDIO MIXED MEDIA
For those interested in a singular art medium or in many, this course provides a personal collaboration between instructor and student allowing for a custom art education. Students are encouraged to find their artistic style through exercises and experimentation. Critiques, discussions and class demonstrations are essential parts of the instruction.
WATERCOLOR
Painting in watercolor is the uniquely challenging experience of careful control and carefree expression. This course will provide the tools and techniques to successfully navigate this complex and contradicting medium. Discussions and exercises will include color theory, values, wash methods and materials. All levels are welcome.
ENCAUSTIC
We are proud to be able to offer this very old form of painting. Artists will layer, collage and transfer image using this ancient wax painting medium. Students will need to be available for 4 consecutive classes. All materials are included. All ability levels are welcome.
